Restoring Dignity Through Pension Access: Sukoon Project’s Support to an Elderly Single Woman

Pyaribai, an elderly single woman living in Diver Panchayat, had been deprived of her old-age pension for nearly two years. Despite repeatedly visiting the Panchayat office and other administrative departments, her problem remained unresolved.

During a neighbourhood meeting under the Sukoon Project, the team learned about her struggle and immediately initiated follow-up. After reviewing the case, it was discovered that the pension payments had stopped due to an incorrect bank account number linked to her beneficiary records.

The team facilitated continuous coordination between the bank, panchayat officials, and administrative departments. With persistent follow-ups and support in completing necessary documentation, the technical error was corrected at the administrative level.

After nearly three months of advocacy and procedural support, Pyaribai finally received her pending pension amount of ₹34,000, and her pension was restored.

Expressing gratitude for the support, she voluntarily contributed service during the community celebration of “Bahna Dooj,” reflecting her sense of dignity and belief in collective support.

This experience demonstrates that the Sukoon Project is not only raising awareness among single women but ensuring access to entitlements, services, and social security schemes through practical handholding support. It highlights the transformative impact of timely intervention and collective action in empowering marginalized women to reclaim their rights.
