Since 1998, RJVS has successfully helped over 8,000+ dropout children re-enroll in schools in various classes including secondary/senior secondary classes and colleges- mostly adolescent girls, who had previously been excluded from education due to gendered social norms. More than 450 children have been supported with scholarships to continue their education and today many such students are working at competitive positions.
"Education holds the power to liberate, empower, and transform lives."
At Rajsamand Jan Vikas Sansthan (RJVS), education is more than a classroom goal — it is a pathway to dignity, opportunity, empowerment and independence. In the communities we work with adolescents , girls in particular, drops out of education for various reasons such as home chores, goat grazing, distance of school, lack of transportation facilities particularly for middle and senior secondary schools, safety & security and above all parent’s concern for sexuality leading to elopement, love affair etc. Both girls and boys often drop out if they get engaged in some jobs with reasonable earnings to support self/ family expenses. In many schools girls dropout due to lack of clean hygienic bathrooms, lack of lady teachers and sexual harassment by teachers and others.
Further as per existing rules of education policy of Government of Rajasthan children are admitted in a class based on their current age and with a drop out of 2 /3 years they find it difficult to understand the concepts of higher class, get frustrated and again tend to drop out. To overcome these issues, RJVS came up with a concept of bridge classes to provide accelerated learning for one year to cover the gap and bring a child to the level of class where he/she is likely to be admitted. This enables and facilitates the students to continue and encourages them to retain their enrollment. Many girls were admitted in Government administered hostels attached schools(KGBs) where poor parents were more than happy with the situation. Where gaps were large the girls were motivated to take the course of state open exams.
Bridge Course Centers: RJVS currently operates 6 active Bridge Course Centers, where out-of-school children receive academic support, counseling, and life skills training. These centers serve as a transitional space, preparing children — emotionally and academically — to re-enter mainstream education confidently.
Parental Engagement & Home Visits: To identify dropout children and understand the reasons behind dropping out of school, RJVS teams conduct door-to-door surveys & home visits . Every year we reach over 150/200 households across 50-60 villages, engaging multiple times parents, community elders, and teachers in meaningful conversations about the value of consistent education. Counseling is provided on why to send children to schools and how to support children in staying in school.
School Infrastructure Improvement: RJVS has supported more than 50 schools in improving basic infrastructure, recognizing that a safe, welcoming school environment is key to retention — especially for girls. These improvements include clean toilets, drinking water, lighting, fans, playground materials, and sanitary pad disposal units.
Career Counseling & Digital Literacy: To prepare adolescents for the future, RJVS introduced career guidance and digital literacy sessions. In 2024–25, over 1,000+ adolescents benefited from these programs, gaining exposure to technology, learning platforms, and pathways to higher education or vocational training. These are conducted in all schools in our target area.
At RJVS, we believe education is not confined to classrooms — it is the key that unlocks choices, confidence, and a brighter future for every child.
