Position Summary

The Director of Systems Design leads the planning, design, and operation of web-based systems that provide simple, reliable, and user-friendly experiences. The position blends systems thinking, user experience design, and operational oversight to ensure organizational systems are accessible, integrated, and responsive to user needs.

This hands-on leadership role manages a small team responsible for system administration, learning platform operations, and user support. The Director also serves as the main contact for user assistance and continuous improvement until system demand supports additional staff.

Key Responsibilities

System Design and Oversight

• Lead the design and enhancement of web-based systems that support user access, data management, and reporting.

• Coordinate with technical partners to ensure usability, reliability, and security.

• Translate organizational needs into functional workflows and user-friendly designs.

User Experience and Support

• Provide user support and troubleshooting for system issues and requests.

• Develop clear user guides, FAQs, and training resources.

• Monitor user feedback to identify improvements and streamline workflows.

Team Leadership

• Supervise a small team (approximately three staff) responsible for systems administration, learning management operations, and process support.

• Set priorities, provide direction, and foster collaboration across functions.

• Liaise with vendors, IT partners, and internal teams to maintain effective operations.

Continuous Improvement

• Assess system performance and recommend enhancements.

• Research and propose tools or features that improve usability and efficiency.

• Maintain documentation and ensure consistency across all platforms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Instructional Technology, or related field (Master’s preferred).

• 5+ years of experience managing or supporting web-based systems or learning platforms.

• Experience leading small teams responsible for systems or LMS operations.

• Understanding of user-centered design and process improvement.

• Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.

• Familiarity with accessibility standards preferred.

Additional information

Physical Factors/Working Conditions:

Work is generally performed virtually with standard office equipment available. Employee will need to provide a dedicated private workspace including the high-speed internet. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing, walking, and light lifting. Included is exposure to a wide range of travel conditions (walking, lifting, driving, riding in vehicles, hotel stays, weather conditions).
