Assistant Editor-GIE Media (Horticulture Group)

GIE Media, a family-owned B2B media company serving a wide range of industries, is seeking an Assistant Editor to join our Horticulture Group.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field, along with at least two years of experience creating content. A background in newspapers or magazines is a big plus, and experience with B2B publishing is even better.

We’re looking for someone who’s not just a strong writer, but also thoughtful and thorough, someone who double-checks the details, asks the right questions, and takes pride in engaging and accurate work. You should also be willing to experiment and use multiple media formats to tell stories and share industry updates, like podcasts, short-form video, and social media.

This role is rooted in the horticulture industry, so while you don’t need to be a master gardener, a genuine interest in plants, gardening, or the green industry is definitely a plus. If you're the type who gets excited about new plant varieties or enjoys spending your weekends in the garden, you’ll feel right at home here. What you’ll be doing

No two days are exactly the same, but here’s a look at some of what you’ll be up to:

• Writing original, engaging, and insightful news stories and features for both our print magazine, website and custom newsletters
• Working with clients on content marketing projects to help them tell their stories
• Editing content for print and digital for grammar and readability
• Pitching fresh story ideas and creative ways to tell them via articles, videos, podcasts, and beyond
• Interviewing industry professionals (on the phone, over Zoom, or in person) to get real insights and perspectives
• Helping plan, write, and send enewsletters that keep our audience informed and inspired
• Collaborating with our editorial team to grow and shape content that supports the industry and keeps readers coming back
• Working with editors and industry experts to build out dynamic trade show conference sessions — everything from topic brainstorming to presentation planning and engagement strategies
• Traveling a few times a year (usually 2–4 times) to trade shows and events to connect with the industry and bring back great stories
