ASSISTANT BUYER– JOB DESCRIPTION

The Assistant Buyer is an entry-level merchandising support role responsible for maintaining the operational foundation of the buying process. This position plays a critical role in reporting, vendor communication, and category board maintenance, ensuring the buying team is equipped with timely and accurate information. The Assistant Buyer supports all administrative aspects of buying and contributes to seasonal preparation across their department group.

JOB FUNCTIONS (may include but not limited to) :

Reporting & Market Preparation

  • Prepare and distribute weekly selling reports for their department group, ensuring accuracy and timely vendor communication.
  • Generate and circulate seasonal market reports across their department group to support market preparation.
  • Maintain category boards for their primary department, ensuring information is up to date for market planning.

Purchase Order & Vendor Management

  • Enter purchase orders and manage updates, including changes, cancellations, and confirmation audits.
  • Collect and organize seasonal vendor assets and PO imagery in OneDrive and NCR.
  • Update pricing adjustments, vendor discounts, payment terms, and shipping details to ensure accurate, timely communication.

Inventory, Operations & Markdown Support

  • Organize return authorizations and coordinate with the Buying Ops Coordinator on internal and external follow-up.
  • Partner with the Buying Ops Coordinator to support transfer management and damaged product processes.
  • Liaise with buyers, planners, visuals, and store teams to ensure accurate markdown preparation and communication.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Computer proficiency (strong Excel skills, email, and Microsoft applications)
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask
  • Ability to prioritize and adapt in a fast-paced environment
  • Retail mathematics skills
  • NCR Counterpoint knowledge preferred
  • Prior retail experience preferred (i.e., buying internship or store-level experience)
